I began working on this series of etchings in 2024 during a residency at Glasgow Print Studio, where I had the freedom to experiment across multiple plates and learn additional techniques like soap-ground and photogravure. Contact I is the first complete suite of prints from this body of work. The resulting prints have a concentrated, minimal and more internally driven visual language. They explore the materiality of printmaking, particularly the qualities of the metal plate itself. Attending to the moments of contact and transferral of tactile information between my hands/body, tools and materials. Contact I explores speculative human-made, non-human and geologic forms meeting in space. Forms touching, weight pressing down, strands of material enmeshing to make new surfaces of imagined structures.
